How to write a great CV

A CV (Curriculum Vitae) is your personal marketing tool. It helps employers understand who you are, what you’ve done, and what you can offer. Here’s what to include:

  • Header with contact details – Your name, phone number, and professional email address

  • Professional Summary – A short intro about you and your career goals

  • Education – Where you studied and your qualifications

  • Work Experience – Include paid work, volunteering, placements or freelance projects

  • Skills – Highlight skills relevant to the job you want (e.g. communication, teamwork, IT)

  • Interests – Hobbies that show your personality and transferable skills

 

Do:

  • Use a clean, clear font like Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman (size 11–12)

  • Use headings and bullet points for easy reading

  • Ask someone to proofread for spelling and grammar

  • Keep it brief and relevant

  • Use a professional email address (avoid nicknames)

 

Don’t:

  • Include unnecessary details (e.g. age, photo, full address)

  • Lie or exaggerate your experience
